Welcome to the April 2008 edition of the
CIAP Newsletter
April has brought us some welcome additions. The Palm Pilot version of Australian
Medicines Handbook has been released as well as some new editions of text books,
and three new journal titles are available on OVID.

Happy reading from the CIAP Team!
Inside this issue:
Australian Medicine Handbook PALM Version now available
The purpose of the AMH is two-fold:
firstly, to provide a readily accessible, concise, up-to-date source of independent
drug information to facilitate effective, rational, safe and economical prescribing
and dispensing; secondly, to provide an educational tool for practitioners and students.
The AMH is totally Australian and its
contents reflect contemporary Australian clinical practice.
What platforms does it run on?
The Tungsten and the Treo (when running
PalmOS) are supported. Australian Medicine Handbook do not recommend the Palm Z22
as they found it to be unreliable while syncing and do not think the screen quality
is sufficient.
What are the differences between the Windows and Palm versions of pAMH?
There are some minor features that are
not included in the Palm version. These are:
- The ability to add a note to a document
- An outline view of the document
There are also some differences to the
layout to better suit the Palm platform. If you have any questions regarding the
PDA version of Australian
Medicine Handbook please

Electronic
Medical Record - eMR (Intranet only)
is a major information management and technology program that is being implemented
to support improvements in clinical redesign and care delivery.
The initial rollout includes an emergency
department module; clinic scheduling; order management for the electronic ordering
and provision of results for pathology and medical imaging investigations;
consultation orders for medical, nursing and allied health consults; an operating
theatre module; and electronic discharge summaries.
The eMR website provides details on the initial
components of the Electronic Medical Record, the benefits, the development of the
standard build of the system and content, implementation plans, current progress
and newsletters and links to other sites. As implementation progresses, common
project materials including communication materials and collaborative workspaces
will be made available to support project implementation locally.

Did You Know - Access the Clinical Excellence Commission website from CIAP
The Clinical Excellence Commission (CEC)
was launched on August
24 2004, as part of the NSW Patient Safety and Clinical Quality
Program. The CEC is a board-governed statutory health corporation
with the CEO reporting directly to the NSW Minister for Health.
An example of what you can find on the CEC site is the ISMP
Medication Safety Self Assessments. This web-based data entry
program will allow hospitals to enter their data online. Using
the web-based program, hospitals can assess the safety of their
medication practices, identify opportunities for improvement and
compare their experience with the aggregate experience of
demographically similar hospitals.
You can access this site from the right hand side of CIAP’s
homepage under “Quick Links”.
