The NSW Department of Health has embarked on a new project that aims to:
To maximise the safety of women and babies utilising public maternity services across NSW
To reduce the number of Reportable Incident Briefs (RIBs) associated with poor interpretation of
FHR patterns and improve the clinical management of labour and birth.
To facilitate the provision of fetal welfare, obstetric emergency and neonatal resuscitation
education to all clinicians privileged or appointed to practice Obstetrics, Registered Midwives and
Student Midwives throughout NSW, working within the public health system.
To develop the education tools and programs to provide two one-day education sessions on Fetal
Welfare Assessment and Obstetric Emergency Management/Neonatal Resuscitation.
To facilitate the provision of K2 Medical Systems (K2MS) Fetal Monitoring Training System to all
clinicians privileged or appointed to practice Obstetrics, Registered Midwives and Student Midwives
under the supervision of a Registered Midwife.
The project has three stages that will be rolled out across the state in 2008:

and interpretation of intrapartum FHR to all hospitals throughout the NSW responsible for the provision
of maternity care.
Development and provision of a train the trainer education program for FHR Interpretation and Fetal
Welfare Assessment, both antenatal and intrapartum.

and Neonatal Resuscitation
